Sounil Yu is the co-founder and Chief AI Safety Officer at Knostic, based in the Washington, D.C. area. He is the author and creator of the Cyber Defense Matrix and the DIE Triad, which are transforming modern cybersecurity strategy.
Previously, Sounil served as the CISO at JupiterOne, CISO-in-Residence at YL Ventures, and Chief Security Scientist at Bank of America. Earlier in his career, he advanced information security programs across several Fortune 100 companies and U.S. government agencies.
A Board Member of the FAIR Institute and Senior Fellow at George Mason University’s National Security Institute, Sounil has over 20 granted patents and has received multiple honors including induction into the Cybersecurity Hall of Fame and the SANS Lifetime Achievement Award. He holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and Duke University, and in Economics from Duke.
