Omer Ahmed’s 15 years of Corporate Strategy and Risk Management experience spans across the Financial and Higher Education sectors in North America and the Middle East. After spending his earlier career in investment banking, Omer made a conscious decision to shift his focus to Higher Education where he has spent majority of his professional career.
In 2019, Omer joined University of British Columbia (UBC) as Director, Enterprise Risk Management where he is responsible for building the best-in-class risk advisory service line and ERM program. At UBC, Omer also led the cybersecurity maturity assessment and managed risks related to large business transformation and other strategic initiatives for the university. Prior to this Omer worked as an Associate Director, Enterprise Risk and Internal Assurance for New York University where he helped establish the ERM office at the Abu Dhabi campus.
Omer received a Master of Business Administration degree from Royal Holloway University of London (UK) and a Bachelor of Arts from York University (Canada). He occasionally speaks at Risk forums internationally.
