Bhargavi is a seasoned technology leader with more than 25 years of experience across several fortune 100 companies, currently working as the CIO, Corporate Technology for Bank of New York Mellon Technology. In this role, Bhargavi leads global technology team spread across multiple geographies and is responsible for innovating and delivering value maximizing technology for all the corporate functions of BNY Mellon. She also leads the DevOps transformation for BNY globally.
Bhargavi is known to be deeply technical with a bias for action and has been able to disrupt the organization in a positive way. She has a strong passion and focus on encouraging women in technology and for fostering diversity at the workplace. She is chairing the Women in Technology for BNY.
Before this role, she was working as the Head of Technology American Express India where she was responsible for strategy formulation, delivery, innovation and people leadership. She is often recognized for her bold ideas, problem solving, realistic planning and strong business acumen for driving results.
Prior to American Express, she has worked in companies like Texas Instruments, MCI/ Worldcom, Microsoft and Amazon. She has a strong focus on encouraging women in technology and launched “digigirlz” while at Microsoft and was a part of the Amazon Campus Mentoring Series for women in engineering.
She is married to Dr. Syama Sunkara who works with TCS and have two wonderful boys Venkat and Sailesh. Bhargavi likes to unwind by reading books on new technologies, spirituality and mythology. She is a fitness enthusiast and loves running. She has completed 13 full marathons and several half marathons so far. She is deeply spiritual and meditates regularly. She enjoys the company of several cohorts of diverse circle of friends which she feels keeps her grounded and honest. Bhargavi holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University and is pursuing her PhD in Computer Science.
